Apple pre-ordered iPhones won’t be delivered till October
NEW YORK (MarketWatch) — Apple Inc. shares AAPL, +1.24% rose 0.9% in premarket trade Monday after the technology giant said demand for the new iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus were so high, many customers who pre-ordered them will have to wait until October to get them. Apple said pre-orders for the new iPhones topped four million in the first 24 hours, exceeding the initial per-order supply. So while “a significant amount” of the new iPhones will be delivered to customers beginning Friday, “many iPhone pre-orders are scheduled to be delivered in October,” Apple said in a statement. Meanwhile, Apple said additional supply of iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus will be available to walk-in customers on Friday, at 8 a.m. local time at Apple retail stores. Apple shares, which have rallied 27% year to date, are on track for a fifth-straight gain since Sept. 9, when it unveiled its new iPhones.
